Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) is the use of medication to end an early pregnancy (up to 9 weeks). It is non-surgical, performed under medical supervision and is over 95% effective.
Two medications (mifepristone and misoprostol) are given 24–48 hours apart. The second medication causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy tissue, similar to a heavy period.
